    About George's Place Animal Sanctuary

It was established to help create an environment in which animals displaced due to unforeseen circumstances would have a safe haven in which to live. At this time, we have a network of foster families to care for these cats and dogs until adoptive families are found. Our goal is to gain enough funding through private donations and grants to build a facility in which all of these animals will be cared for until placed permanently in loving homes. For animals that cannot be placed due to medical or behavioral conditions, we will provide a loving environment in which they will always be home. It is also our goal to help end the pet overpopulation epidemic. The opening of Affordable Animal Care Spay/Neuter Clinic of Durham is our next step towards attaining this goal.

So why the name George's Place?

The name is in memory of a spectacular little black and white cat that came into our lives after becoming displaced during Hurricane Floyd. Through all of the destruction and despair, he managed to survive and brighten each of our lives. With his spirit, we learned that with a little effort to help a creature in need, there is a tremendous amount to be gained. George lived for 7 years after he came into our lives. During these years, he spent much of his time in therapy work and always brought a smile to children and elderly alike. We will always cherish what George gave to us and hope to continue to help many more pets like him through our work.
